Your First Visit
What you can expect
Your first visit begins with a screening where you and the therapist discuss your pain and what you have done to relieve it in the past. The therapist checks for problems that may be causing your pain:
Postural Distortion – an imbalance in the muscular tonus system that causes the body to move off the coronal, midsagital or horizontal planes.
In an effort to maintain structural balance, the body tries to compensate by contracting muscles, causing postural distortion and pain.
Biomechanical Dysfunction - An imbalance of the musculoskeletal system that causes faulty movement patterns.
Repetitive strain of certain soft tissues causes adapted movement patterns. These muscular “habits” have to be reeducated.
Soft-Tissue Injuries - Injuries from chronic stress, overuse, or sometimes from a single blow to tendons, ligaments or muscles.
The therapist then recommends a course of treatment. Typically, the first treatment session takes place during the first visit, so you and your therapist can begin evaluating the effectiveness of NMT on your pain right away.
